Recruiting safely

It is the responsibility of all third sector organisations to make sure that those who are employed or placed in volunteer positions are suitable to work with children, young people or adults who might be at risk.

Equally due consideration should be given to the fair and non-discriminatory treatment of those applying to work or volunteer in your organisation as part of any recruitment and selection process.

The cornerstones of safer recruitment are:

  • implementing policies and practice
  • using DBS checks as a tool to help with safer recruiting
  • a risk based approach
